Stradalli-Safetti Pro Team Ready For USA Crits Series

The Stradalli – Safetti Cycling Team has been training and working hard to get ready for the USA Criterium Series which officially begins in Tampa, Florida on March 18th. There are plenty of new faces with several familiar ones returning to the team which began training early in the year.

The team has experienced early success this cycling season as they have come away with a top 10 finish in every race while helping the young riders on the team get acclimated and develop. The goal this year is to continue upon the progress and development of young racers who helped make the team a success last season and prepare them for the Miami Pro Cycling Criterium.

The focus early on this season has been about practicing teamwork and finding chemistry and success using the experience riders to give younger riders opportunity to win. After a short break the team is ready to get back to action.

Akil Campbell, the Stradalli-Safetti ambitious young racer from Trinidad and Tobago brought a top 10 placing in what will likely be the hardest road race of the season in in his first race with the team.

Grant Potter, team captain is currently training in his home country Scotland after overcoming a life threatening surgery that cut his season short last year but thankfully did not end his career. He has since found his way back to racing at the top level but it is more than his racing ability that is needed as he also brings a wealth of experience to a young team.

The Vuelta Independencia Nacional Republica Dominicana UCI 2.2 race begins tomorrow with pro racer Jose Frank Rodriguez representing his country for the 8 stages.

The rest of the team is training in South Florida in preparation of their next race. The Stradalli – Safetti team will continue their 2016 racing schedule in March starting with the Chain of Lakes races which are a part of the Bill Bone Pro Am Florida Series.

Stradalli-Bike Aid Racer Niko Holler Is A Leader On And Off The Road

The success of the Stradalli-Bike Aid team this season will be based on two things, their deep pool of young talent and their solid leadership.

Pro racer Niko Holler falls into both of those categories. While he is still a young, up and coming racer in the cycling world, Niko has over 11 years of racing experience and is one of the veteran leaders of the Stradalli-Bike Aid team.

Meet Stradalli-Bike Aid Pro Racer Damien Garcia

One of Stradalli-Bike Aid's newest young racers is Damien Garcia. At 23 he is entering his third-year as a professional out of Pau, France.

Originally from the Southwest of France, Garcia has already seen and experienced a lot in races all around the world. He raced for Euskatel Development Team in Spain before transferring to GSC Blagnac, the best elite team in France

2014 Garcia began racing for a continental team out of Luxembourg before ending up in Norway for 2015.

With all that traveling Garcia is very excited to find himself with the Stradalli-Bike Aid team, mostly because of the family atmosphere.

“When you spend countless weeks together with the same group of guys you want to make sure you get along with them. The Stradalli –Bikeaid team is truly like a family and that's what I like about them. We enjoy racing with each other and work hard to help our teammate. Now we have to keep racing hard but also stay humble as we prepare for upcoming races. I am excited to be a part of the team and help us advance to the best of my best abilities.” Garcia said.

Stradalli – Bike Aid began their season at La Tropicale Amissa Bongo. Since then they have raced in the Mallorca Challenge as well as the Vuelta Ciclista a Andalucia Ruta del Sol. Garcia said the Ruta del Sol was a great experience for him.

“I believe i learned more in the 5 days of racing the Vuelta Andalucia than eight years of cycling. The team, staff and riders gained  knowledge and experience in that race and it will serve us for the rest of the season.” Garcia said.

The Ruta del Sol was the perfect testing ground for Stradalli – Bike Aid’s young talents and a taste of what is possible for the team in the future.

“For me personally the race was a great experience. I'm racing with World Tour riders through the mountains on live television in 120 countries. That's an amazing experience and something you dream of doing.” Garcia said.

Garcia feels that racing against such competition is important for the growth of the team.

“You had Valverde, van Garderen, Mollema, Kelderman, Kyrienka and Poels all there. The biggest difference with the races at World Tour level is when the top teams such as Sky, Movistar, BMC or Lotto start to push it is real steamroller and you cannot go back to front. We have to fight to keep our place.” Garcia said.

One area where the Stradalli-Bike Aid team will not be overmatched this year is with equipment as the team is armed with the latest Aversa full carbon road bikes from Stradalli Cycle, an advantage Garcia is grateful to have.

“The performance of the road bikes we got from Stradalli have been spectacular. They were well tested in the high mountains and the performance was perfect. The bikes are super reactive and easy to climb with. The Ruta del Sol was a grueling race with only 81 of the 165 racers finishing. I was proud to be one of the 81. ” Garcia said.

Stradalli-Bike Aid Gears Up For Vuelta a Andalucia Ruta Ciclista Del Sol

The Vuelta a Andalucia Ruta Ciclista Del Sol UCI 2.1 race, which can trace its history back to 1925, is one of the longest running races on the schedule in Europe. The Stradalli – Bike Aid pro team continues its 2016 UCI calendarcampaign at the Ruta Del Sol, arriving with a full line up comprised of the top riders from the German Continental Professional Team.
The race has been dominated in recent years by Alejandro Valverde from Team Movistar and Chris Froome of Team Sky who won last year’s edition, but historically German riders have excelled here. Erik Zabel is the most recent German to win despite facing quality competition.

One of the primary early season races, the Ruta del Sol is frequented by World Tour teams including, Trek – Segafredo, Team Giant – Alpecin among others. Stradalli-Bike Aid Finishes Great Challenge Mallorca To Start Off 2016 Season

For the Stradalli-Bike Aid the 2016 Challenge Mallorca finished with great experiences and lessons learned. The 161.5 kilometer Trofeo Playa de Palma – Palma presented more than a few challenges for the team on the last day of four challenging days of racing in Mallorca. Andre Greipel of Lotto Soudal would not be denied as once again he found his way to the top of the podium in a fast sprint finish. For Stradalli – Bike Aid team however, racing in Mallorca was about much more than just final results. The racers started 2016 at La Tropicale Amissa Bongo and had fantastic results in the country where the team is making a huge impact. One of the biggest accomplishments of Mallorca for this team was that they were able to bring along 2 African athletes with them to race with the top level teams. It is hard to fully appreciate the difference between Continental Professionals and World Tour Professionals. Stradalli – Bike Aid riders often found themselves under pressure from the top guys of World Tour racing. When Fabian Cancellara attacks, there is not much a continental professionals can do. When Team Sky takes the front and picks up the speed on the ascent of a mountain, everyone hurts from it. For the growth of Stradalli – Bike Aid, competing against teams such as Movistar and Trek – Segafredo is an opportunity to learn. Daniel Bichlmann and Timo Schafer found themselves in breakaways many times which nearly reached the finish. Every day was filled with ups and downs but each rider on the team gave it everything they had. For a brand new team with new bikes the Challenge Mallorca was truly a success for Stradalli-Bike Aid and the "Aversa" full carbon road bikes performed great.

STRADALLI – BIKE AID TEAM LEARNS GREAT LESSON AT CHALLENGE MALLORCA

Today in the third stage of the Challenge Mallorca, Trofeo Serra de Tramuntana, the Stradalli – Bike Aid team got an education and understanding of what truly separates a continental team from a multi-million dollar World Tour Team.

The race included more than 9000 feet of climbing into a 149.9 kilometer (88.5 mile) stage. At first you would think the racers would take it easy with a start like that. Not if you were on one of the World Tour Teams. They attacked early and kept going. The Stradalli-Bike Aid riders had a max wattage of over 700 watts in only the first 6 kilometers.

The stage started with a 4.5 ascent of the Col de Soller which had sections that were so steep that many of the team cars could barely make it up the mountain in second gear. It was an incredibly challenging day filled with competitive racing. Stradalli – Bike Aid rider Daniel Bichlmann wasn't intimidated by the mountain and began the first breakaway of the day with one Russian rider for 6 kilometers, but despite the tremendous effort in the race the world tour teams took over.

Tom Steinbacher, title sponsor owner for Stradalli – Bike Aid, wasn't disappointed with the results and applauded the team for their efforts.

“When you go against the best in the world all you can ask for from your team is that they give it everything they have and that's exactly what the Stradalli-Bike Aid team did this race. They left it all out there and I am very proud of them.” Steinbacher said.

Steinbacher feels that the experience in Mallorca will help the team throughout the year as they learned a lot about themselves, how to battle, how to race with the big teams and much more.

“We are a young team with a lot to learn, but the guys show they are up to the challenge. They constantly battled and showed tremendous heart. They are grateful for everything whether it's the bikes, the sponsors and the opportunity to compete against teams like Team Sky, Lotto Soudal, Ettix – Quick Step and Team Dimension Data.” Steinbacher said.

Steinbacher feels that the racers are improving after every race.
